Jordan wins African gong

Aston Villa’s Ghanaian striker Jordan Ayew has been named African Player Of The Month for January.
The Ghana international who has 5 goals in 17 appearances so far this season beat off challenge from Mikel Obi (Chelsea) and Cheikhou Kouyate (West Ham).
He is currently serving a ban after being sent off against West Ham United.
The organisers of the award, New African Soccer, revealed that he was given the award after a unanimous vote in his favour, but also by their assessment.
Awards Director Tunde Adelakun said: “Jordan Ayew has really put in a good shift in the games that Aston Villa played in the month of January, and although they are really struggling to get results as a club, one cannot but notice and appreciate the desire and ability shown by the youngster in the course of the month.”
Villa won one game, drew two and lost one in the month under review.
