Germany international Draxler was under fire from Schalke fans even before the season started for leaving the Ruhr valley club he had played since the age of eight, drawn to cash-rich Wolfsburg in one of the most expensive German transfers.

Fifa seeks life bans for two officials

Fifa's Ethics Committee on Thursday recommended life bans for two former vice-presidents of South American Football Confderation, CONMEBOL, over corruption.
Luis Bedoya, a former member of the Fifa Executive Committee, a former CONMEBOL vice-president and, until October 2015 the President of the Colombian FA, and Sergio Jadue, a former vice-president of CONMEBOL and the former President of the Chilean FA, were targeted in reports by the investigatory chamber of the Ethics Committee.
The two reports, together with recommendations for life bans, have been sent to the adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee, which is chaired by Hans-Joachim Eckert.
In a statement, Fifa said that both Bedoya and Jadue had been subject to US Department of Justice investigations at the end of 2015 during which the men had waived indictment and pleaded guilty to a two-count information charging them with "racketeering conspiracy and wire fraud conspiracy".
The Ethics Committee investigatory chamber recommended imposing on both Bedoya and Jadue a "lifelong ban on taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for an alleged violation of the general rules of conduct, loyalty, duty of disclosure, cooperation and reporting, conflicts of interest, bribery and corruption and general obligation to collaborate".

De Gea own goal gives Sunderland win

David de Gea's cruel 82nd-minute own goal condemned Louis van Gaal's Manchester United to a 2-1 defeat at struggling Sunderland on Saturday that compromised their hopes of Champions League.
Bidding to close the six-point gap separating them from fourth-place Manchester City, United fell behind in the third minute when Wahbi Khazri's free-kick from out on the left eluded everyone and crept in at the far post.
Anthony Martial equalised in the 39th minute, but Sunderland took the points when Martial's attempt to clear Lamine Kone's header off the line struck goalkeeper De Gea's arm and rolled into the net.
It was United's seventh league defeat of the season and it will only serve to fuel speculation about the position of their manager Van Gaal, amid reports that the club have approached Jose Mourinho to succeed him.
United fell to a first league defeat on Wearside for 19 years and became the first top-half team that struggling Sunderland have beaten this season in 14 attempts.
In their first game since announcing the sacking of Adam Johnson after the England winger admitted to child sex charges, Sunderland took an early lead in fortunate circumstances.

HS senior gets banned from soccer league with list of ridiculous offenses

It took nearly two full months of shenanigans but Ohio's North Side Co-Ed Soccer League has finally ousted anti-establishment villain Brian Garruto.
Garruto, a senior and member of the boys' varsity soccer team at Westlake (Ohio) High School, posted the banishment notice he received from the recreational league's management to his Twitter account.

It seems not everyone was as amused as we are by the sideshow that was Mr. Garruto.
Take a look at this lengthy list of incidents that led to his ban:

'Madrid will not rush back Bale'

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said on Friday Gareth Bale will only return to competitive action when he is 100 percent fit as the Welshman continues his recovery from a calf injury.
Bale has been out since suffering the injury in a 5-1 win against Sporting Gijon in mid-January and has still not returned to full training.
Zidane admitted the former Tottenham Hotspur player had suffered a minor setback in his recovery, meaning he will not feature at home to Athletic Bilbao in La Liga on Saturday and is set to miss next Wednesday's Champions League last-16 first leg away to Roma.

AmaTuks await fitness tests on duo

Struggling University of Pretoria will put two key players through late fitness tests before deciding on whether to use them in Sunday’s derby match against SuperSport United.
Defender Willem Mwedihanga and striker Atusaye Nyondo are both doubtful for the clash at Atteridgeville, officials said on Friday.
Namibia international Mwedihanga picked up a head injury in the 1-0 loss to Orlando Pirates last Saturday night and he must be assessed again before a decision can be made on his availability.
Malawi international Nyodo is nursing a hamstring injury and will also have to prove his fitness.
University of Pretoria sit second from bottom in the Absa Premiership standings with 13 points from 18 games.
There is one bright light for AmaTuks as they await their first win since Shaun Bartlett took over as coach. Opponents SuperSport must do without the suspended Jeremy Brockie, who sits out the match after an accumulation of yellow cards.
