Times at Stamford Bridge
are certainly happier in 2016 but a quartet of Chelsea stars left their
allegiances aside to take on each other in a game of FIFA 16.
The reigning Premier League champions remain unbeaten under Guus
Hiddink, who replaced Jose Mourinho in December, with the Dutchman guiding
Chelsea back up to 13th in the table.
Four Blues players took time out from their busy schedule to
battle it out on the popular video game in the EA Sports Pro Player Tournament
at Stamford Bridge.
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois
joined youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek to face the combination of full back Cesar
Azpilicueta and Frenchman Kurt Zouma.
Loftus-Cheek was thinking tactically before kick-off, electing to
place himself on the bench to be utilised as a ‘super sub.’
However it was Azpilicueta and Zouma who took a first-half lead
and grabbed a selfie stick to record the celebrations in front of a crowd of
Chelsea fans.
The second-half was a completely different story as Loftus-Cheek,
playing as Hazard, headed his side level.
The tension kept building as chances went begging but it was
Loftus-Cheek who took the initiative at the start of extra-time to substitute
himself onto the pitch.
It was the spark his team needed as the promising 20-year-old and
Courtois hammered in three late goals to secure the dressing room bragging
rights with an emphatic 4-1 triumph.
Zouma, who is now out for the rest of the season and Euro 2016
following a horror knee injury against Manchester United, declared that Loftus-Cheek,
‘changed the game for them.’
Computer games aside, Loftus-Cheek will be hoping for more playing
time under the reign of Hiddink as the Blues aim to secure silverware in the FA
Cup and Champions League.
The west Londoners next host Newcastle in the capital on Saturday
evening.
